Twitter supports animated GIFS

 Twitter announced today that users on iOS and Android as well as online support for animated GIF images. Feature is now available directly on the application as of today, no need to update the application from the app store.

According to the Twitter Blog Developers update the API now supports PNG, JPG and GIF and animations up to 3 MB in size. This means that developers of Twitter applications can easily and formally incorporate the participation of GIF images directly over the same links pic.twitter.com for photo uploads.
